Castor can be used for many different things, but when it comes to regrowing your hair it is exceptionally effective. Using castor oil for hair growth will help add volume and length to your existing hair. Some of the components that castor oil boasts that makes it effective for regrowing hair include omega-6 fatty acids, vitamin E, and essential minerals and proteins.
If you want to regrow hair naturally maybe it’s time to consider using castor oil. Using castor oil for hair not only promotes growth, but also adds shine along with thickness to your hair. It’s often mixed it with another natural oil like almond oil or coconut oil to help promote more lustrous and healthy hair.
One of my personal favorite ways to use castor oil for hair growth is to actually mix it with virgin coconut oil and massage it into the scalp and hair follicles. This mixture will help stop common hair problems like shredding as well as breakage pretty easily along with helping your hair grow.
Why Castor Oil for Hair Growth?
Does castor oil make hair grow? Absolutely!
One of the reasons why castor oil has the ability to regrow hair naturally is because it contains powerful anti-fungal and antibacterial properties. Thanks to these properties your hair has a much better chance of growing naturally because it’s free of any bacteria or fungus that could create an environment where it’s hard for your hair to grow.
Another way it helps with hair growth is because it increases blood circulation to the scalp and also helps stop inflammation of the scalp (a common cause for some people losing their hair). It also contains essential minerals, proteins, and vitamins that your hair regrow, and also make your hair look good.
However, probably the biggest reason why castor oil is great for your hair is because of the omega 6 and 9 fatty acids that it contains. A couple of the fatty acids in castor oil that make it great for hair loss is linoleic and oleic acid. It also contains triglycerides as well as riconleic acid, which is a very special fatty acid that gives castor oil it’s great hair benefits.
Castor oil can provide many hair benefits besides just helping your hair grow naturally. Some of the hair benefits that castor oil provides include:
- Conditioning – castor oil is a natural conditioner and helps condition your hair by moisturizing it. When you apply this oil it will penetrate your scalp deeply which in turn will leave your hair and scalp conditioned.
- Dandruff – using castor oil for hair will help get rid of dandruff flakes. You have its anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties to thank for that.
- Stops Frizzing
- Adds Shine
- Makes Hair More Elastic
- And More
How to Apply Castor Oil for Hair Growth
When it comes to how to apply castor oil for hair growth it is best to mix it with another natural oil. You can simply apply some castor oil to your scalp and hair follicles by rubbing it in and leaving it in while you sleep at night and rinse out when you get up in the morning.
However, mixing another oil that’s beneficial for hair growth is always best when using castor oil to regrow your hair. Me personally I like virgin coconut oil, but we also recommend trying other oils to mix with castor oil like:
Bhringraj oil – it has been proven to help with various hair issues such as hair fall and grey hair.
Olive oil – it contains vitamin E, which is one of the most vital vitamins for promoting hair health and growth. It’s the combination of anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and oleic acid that makes olive oil one of the best oils to mix with castor oil for hair growth.
Argan oil – this oil contains powerful hair repairing and hair growth properties that make it a no-brainer when it comes to what oils to combine with castor oil.
Grapeseed oil – this is another great oil to mix with castor oil for hair growth because it is high in vitamin E and linoleic acid. It will help repair damaged hair and promote hair growth by strengthening your hair follicles.
When applying castor oil to regrow your hair naturally all you really need is a small amount. Less is really more when you use castor oil on your scalp and hair. Mix a few tablespoons of your preferred brand of castor oil with about a tablespoon of another one of the natural oils we’ve listed above.
Apply enough drops of the oil mixture onto your hair and scalp. You want to apply enough drops to be able to rub/massage the oil mixture evenly around your hair. Repeat this hair fall treatment a few times each week to get the most out of it.
We’ve received emails from some of our readers who believe this oil treatment works even better when their hair is damp, which is true because your hair will absorb the castor oil’s properties a little better when it’s a little wet. Make sure when you apply the castor oil mixture you leave it in for a couple hours at least before washing it out.
We recommend applying it at night right before you go to bed. When you apply it wrap your head with a towel or a night cap to keep the oil locked in (a shower cap can work too).
Wash out the oil in the morning when you wake up. When you wash it out it’s best to use a natural shampoo designed to help with hair loss and regrow hair. We’ve talked about some of the best shampoos for hair regrowth here.
For severe hair loss problems we suggest massaging your hair with castor oil each day for at least 10 minutes. You’ll be surprised how much better your hair feels by doing this: less flakes, moisturized and softer hair, and hair that is more easy to work with. All the attributes of healthy hair that is ready to grow.
What Type of Castor Oil for Hair Growth is Best?
The best type of castor oil to use to regrow hair is cold pressed castor oil. This oil has no scent and will have a yellowish color to it. The lighter the color of the cold pressed castor oil the better or higher the purity, which makes it better for your hair.
The reason why the cold pressed kind is the best for hair growth is because it retains most of the nutrients and properties necessary to help with your hair needs. Avoid using castor oils that have been refined, which robs it of all its essential properties.
One type of castor oil that many of our readers are using with great results is Jamaican Black Castor Oil. It’s a special type of castor oil that is very effective for hair due to the amount of properties it retains.
The only precaution when using castor oil for hair growth is to make sure you test a small sample on your skin to see if you are irritated by it. Some people actually get irritated skin or scalp when castor oil is applied if this is the case with you make sure you dilute it a little before applying.
